New Years resolution time!!!

Here's my personal ones:

1) Get Bowenwork 1x/month for maintenance (and more if I get injured somehow... but maintenance usually keeps the body going strong!)

2) Exercise daily with 20 Second Fitness dvd's (it's only 8 minutes a day, 6 days a week... I think I can handle that!)

3) Eat a bit healthier (more frequent "mini meals", more fiber, less fat and less processed food... not too hard to follow!)

4) Drink 8 - 10 glasses of water (I shoot for 1/2 my bodyweight in ounces per day... another reason to shed a few pounds!)

5) Stretch a bit more (it's great to stretch at bed time... relaxes the body and the mind!)

That's a pretty simple formula for health...

Most people think that bodywork techniques, like Bowenwork, only help muscle problems. But the good news is that a holistic technique like Bowenwork also can positively impact our organs and our nervous and circulatory systems.

Bowenwork has procedures that can also address things like asthma, cold feet, anxiety, seizures, heartburn, digestive problems, infertility, constipation, colon problems, prostate, gall bladder, and more! Now, I'm not saying you shouldn't see your doctor for medical advice! Of course you should!!!! But you can also use Bowenwork as an adjunctive therapy to help these things too! Just food for thought!!!

Temporal mandibular joint (jaw or TMJ) pain is a very debilliating condition that not only cause pain when eating, but also can be a major source of headaches. People with TMJ pain also tend to clench their teeth and grind them when they sleep.

After 15+ years in this field, I (again!) am amazed at how fast and effective the Bowen TMJ techniques are. In the old days (aka "before Bowen!") for treatment I would be use St. John Neurmomuscular Therapy to release trigger points and Rolfing-style deep tissue techniques, which are very effective in their own right, don't get me wrong... but often are a bit painful and I found would take many treatments to calm the tight muscles down. In Rolfing, done traditionally, the TMJ ...

Many people will experience hip pain at one point in their life. I like to do a postural assessment and check hip range of motion and flexibility to determine what is the best course of treatment with Bowenwork. We have some great Bowen procedures that will help align the body and give it a chance to reduce inflammation and allow pain signals to relax.

Working to insure that the pelvis is level is one approach and the Bowen pelvis procedure is nothing short of amazing in how quickly leg length discrepancies equalize. Other areas to address for hip pain are how the sacrum is balanced between the pelvic bones, hamstring/quadriceps balance (including taking a look at the semi-known gracilis muscle), nerve pain referred from the coccyx (...

My dental hygienist told me that regular flossing lowers c-reactive protein, one of the markers for cardiovascular disease. That got my attention so I went and googled it and I want to share that with you!

Here is an article that I think is important reading! I had have flossed almost every day for the last 6 months and a recent blood profile showed my C-Reactive Protein was in normal range!!!  It just makes sense that if gums get inflammed gums (caused by NOT flossing) that systemic inflammation could then occur. So take a minute and floss before you go to bed!

CDEP: Regular Flossing Lowers Serum C-Reactive Protein

Traditional medicine usually says salt is bad for us, causes high blood pressure, etc. And I agree if the salt you use is processed, refined salt. But my own leg cramp issues have been greatly helped by receiving regular Bowen therapy (there is a GREAT advanced hamstring release in Bowtech 2nd advanced training) and in using using natural, unrefined salt, like Celtic Sea Salt or Himalayan Mountain Salt.

Unrefined salts have trace minerals in them, which I believe is the secret to muscle cramp relief.  I refer to a book by Dr. David Brownstein MD, a holistic family medicine doctor from West Bloomfield, MI. His book "SALT Your way to Health" is an excellent medical viewpoint and gives a lot of details!! He also explains...

Peter Short, a Bowen Therapist from New Zealand came up with a combination of Bowen Procedures that is incredible at relieving migraine headaches. In as little as 45 minutes, your migraine should diminish so rapidly, as one of my clients put it... "you will feel like you had your migraine yesterday! And the good news is, Peter has generously shared his "migraine success recipe" so now you don't have to fly across the world to New Zealand to get relief!!! (But that would be a GREAT trip!!!). You can instead come over to our beautiful office in Birmingham MI feel your migraine melt away!!!

But don't feel like you have to wait for a full blown migraine to come in for a treatment!! Getting your body balanced with ...

Apple Cider Vinegar has long been used as a natural remedy for all sorts of ailments (just google it!!!). Tom Bowen often recommended it to his clients as a soak to aid cellular healng for use on damaged tissue, bruises and soft tissue injuries.

To use: Soak a wash cloth in apple cider vinegar and wrap the cloth around the injured area (NOTE: If you have sensitive skin, you may wish to dilute the vinegar with water). Next, wrap the cloth with saran wrap to retain the moisture. Leave on for a minimum of four to five hours (or over night if possible).

Epsom Salts work great for soaking bunions and to help with fluid in elbows. (Also for aches and pains or general relaxation, a 20 minute bath with a cup epsom salts is great too!)
